We began our discussions with Wayne Homes at the beginning of 2015, and it seemed fine at first, everyone is so nice and cheerful and willing to help. So we signed in February and then everything went downhill from there rather quickly. Apparently what is signed in a "Contract" is only to the benefit of Wayne Homes and not us. Pricing guaranteed for 90 days? Yes, that is exactly what was in writing, but alas, a price increase in March overruled that point. Credits for "Kitchen Cabinets with a specific $$$ amount", Yes, that is exactly what was in writing, but alas, the sales manager decided that what we were told was not true, even though it came from the VP of Sales, and we had it in writing. The deceitful nature of how numerous pricing issues were handled became disconcerting! One person says one thing, then another contradicts them. We went around and around on dozens of issues and it seems that what ever you agree to at the onset, "in writing", just doesn't mean anything to them.

We had an opportunity to visit several model homes, then got to visit actual customer homes under construction. I must say, there is a level of deceit going on, which may constitute "bait and switch". What happens in the model homes, seems to bear no resemblance to what a customer actually gets. The fit and finish of customer homes was deplorable compared to the "model home"!

If you are building on a tight lot with close setback lines - BEWARE!! We were told by one of their field managers that they need the house to be setback an extra 5 feet from setback lines because they are not responsible for building so close to the lines. Well that is a bunch of horse ***, apparently Wayne Homes is so incompetent they have to build a fudge factor even into the site layout... If they cannot site the house properly, how can you rely on them to do anything else.

Needless to say, we decided to cancel, and what was their response? "No Biggie, we expected that"!! Really? All I can say is we are sooooo glad we got our money back and decided to move forward with another builder in the Pittsburgh Area. All I can recommend is that unless you want to be taken to the cleaners by a used car dealer posing as a home builder, do your research and find a reputable builder. One clue about reputable builders is search every review and forum online, then contact the Pennsylvania Builders Association. Our current builder is on the Board and their reputation is spotless and their construction standards and details are far superior, but yet they do not necessarily cost more when compared to the low ball pricing you will initially get from Wayne Homes which will skyrocket after the fact!!

BUYER BEWARE, TAKE THIS TO THE BANK - YOU WERE TOLD!!!

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

You made the best choice ever....we moved into our home after a year from the closing on our loan, 10-1/2 months from our dig date. HORRIBLE experience.

framing was awful, drywall was awful, no clue how to install doors and windows properly, etc. I could go on and on. Arrogance from the top down as well. Our front door was reinstalled at least once and still is not in correctly...you can see light and it's rubbing so hard it's actually hard to open and close and damaging the jamb.

If they can't install doors correctly you can only guess the rest of the house. I've never been in a house where the floors creak as horribly as ours. It is so awful we will probably have to hire someone to come and fix them. At one point we had the incorrect shingles on the roof, wrong kitchen cabinets, windows that were supposed to be tempered glass and never caught until we brought it to their attention several times, countertops that had to be ripped out and replaced, carpeting that was filthy from being installed months prior to moving and prior to major drywall repairs throughout the entire home.

This is only a touch of the things we have had to deal with and then on top of all of that, on top of the major delays, they actually fought us on things that were basically no-brainer issues and never did we receive an apology. Awful company to deal with.
